Privacy Policy
Last updated: May 29, 2026
ShrinkMyVid (“ShrinkMyVid,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the website at shrinkmyvid.com(the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we do and do not collect, how it is used, and the rights you have. ShrinkMyVid is part of the NullWeb suite of free, privacy-first browser tools. By using the Service, you agree to this policy.
The short version
Your videos never leave your device. ShrinkMyVid compresses video entirely inside your web browser using WebAssembly. We have no servers that receive, store, or process your video files. We cannot see your videos, and we never upload them anywhere.
1. Local processing of your files
When you add a video to ShrinkMyVid, the file is read directly by your browser and held in your device’s memory only for as long as you are working with it. All decoding, re-encoding, and compression happens locally on your computer or phone. The compressed result is generated on your device and offered to you as a download. At no point is your video, or any frame of it, transmitted to us or to any third party.
2. Information we do not collect
- We do not collect, upload, or store your video files.
- We do not collect the contents, filenames, or metadata of your videos.
- We do not require an account, email address, or any registration.
- We do not sell or rent personal information to anyone.
3. Information collected automatically
Like most websites, we may collect limited, non-identifying technical information to keep the Service running and to understand aggregate usage:
- Usage analytics. If enabled, we use Google Analytics 4 to record anonymous, aggregated events such as “a compression was started” along with non-personal metadata like file size ranges, video duration, target size, and the resulting size-reduction percentage. We never send filenames, video content, or anything that identifies you.
- Standard server logs. Our hosting provider may log standard request data (such as IP address, browser type, and timestamps) for security and reliability. These logs are not linked to your video activity.
- Approximate location. We may read a coarse country code provided by our hosting platform to tailor content and comply with regional requirements. This is stored only in a short-lived cookie (see below) and is not your precise location.
4. Cookies and local storage
We use a minimal set of cookies and browser storage:
- Geolocation cookie. A cookie storing a two-letter country code, set for up to 24 hours, used to tailor content and advertising compliance.
- Analytics cookies. If analytics is enabled, Google sets cookies to measure aggregate usage. You can block these with your browser settings or an extension.
- Advertising cookies. If advertising is enabled (see below), our ad partner may set cookies to serve and measure ads.
5. Third-party services
We rely on a small number of third parties to deliver the Service. Each has its own privacy policy:
- Hosting (Vercel). Serves the website and may process standard request logs.
- Content delivery (unpkg/CDN). The first time you use the tool, your browser downloads the WebAssembly compression engine from a public CDN. This is a standard, one-time asset download — no video data is involved.
- Google Analytics. Aggregate, anonymized usage measurement, if enabled.
- Google AdSense. If advertising is enabled, Google may use cookies to serve ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out via Google Ads Settings.
6. Advertising
ShrinkMyVid may display advertising to keep the tool free. Where ads are shown, third-party vendors including Google may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits. You may opt out of personalized advertising through Google Ads Settings or the Digital Advertising Alliance opt-out page.
7. Children’s privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because we do not collect personal data in the normal course of using the tool, there is nothing for a child to disclose to us.
8. Your rights under CCPA (California)
If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of the sale of personal information. We do not sell personal information. Because video processing is entirely local, we hold almost no personal information about you. To exercise any right, contact us using the details below.
9. Your rights under GDPR (EEA/UK)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and the right to data portability. Our lawful basis for the limited analytics described above is your consent and our legitimate interest in maintaining the Service. You may withdraw consent at any time by disabling cookies or contacting us.
10. Data retention and security
We do not retain your videos at all — they exist only in your browser during your session and are discarded when you close the tab or refresh. For the minimal analytics and log data we do process, we retain it only as long as needed for the purposes described, and we rely on industry-standard safeguards provided by our hosting and analytics partners.
11. International users
The Service is available worldwide. Any limited technical data processed by our third-party providers may be handled in the United States or other countries under those providers’ own safeguards.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
